Xishuangbanna geographically inclines from north to south, the highest point is Huazhuliangzi Peak, where the altitude is 2429 meters, the lowest point is where the Mekong River flows out of China, elevation there is only 480 meters. Tropical climate and subtropical climate are the main climate types in Xishuangbanna, hot and humid, annual average temperature is 18.1--21.7 degrees Centigrade and annual rainfall is 1200mm--1600mm. There are no obvious 4 seasons in this area, only 2 seasons--raining season (May--October) and dry season (November--April of next year). Plenty of rainfall and warmth provides tropical plants and animals with the best habitat, 2400 square km of tropical rainforest and various wild lives make Xishuangbanna reputed as Tropical Fauna & Flora Kingdom.

For picturesque tropical scenery and exotic ethnic traditions & customs in here, Xishuangbanna has been listed as a National Scenic District by government, significant scenic spots include Ganlanba Dai villages, Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden, Manfeilong White Pagoda, Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion, Nationality Park, Wild Elephant Valley and so on. The most precious tourism resource in Xishuangbanna is the colorful culture of ethnic minority groups, Xishuangbanna is a multi-nationality prefecture, besides Han people, there are another 12 nationalities living in this prefecture, they still follow the very original way of living in the countryside, industrious, honest, kind and hospitable. Xishuangbanna is attracting more and more domestic and overseas tourists with her charms.

In resent years, as the traffic & communication conditions is getting better, with advantageous geographic location (connected with Laos and Myanmar, crossed by the Mekong), Xishuangbanna has become a gate of China that is widely opened to Southeast Asia. There are 3 international ports in Xishuangbanna---Mohan land port on China-Lao border, Jinhong Port on the Mekong River which is open to Thailand, International airport with airlines to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, In addition, international highway from Kunming, capital of Yunnan, to Bangkok via Xishuangbanna and northern Laos is now under full-range construction, which is scheduled to be finished in several years and a more efficient international thoroughfarewill will be set up by then.
